NECESSITY OF THE BRIDGE :
The slide developed at Sunguaray on Dentam – Utteray road in 85-86 has been posing a great hazard to the vehicles pedestrians and cattle moving in this road. Geological examination has shown that this area is an unstable area. Therefore, a diversionary road of 3 km to avoid hazardous slide was constructed along a stable alignment. This diversionary road meets the gorge of Singshore Khola and therefore construction of this bridge was necessary.

SITE CONDITION :
The gorge over which this bridge has been constructed is very wide and deep. The depth is nearly 700 ft and the width is 650 it. The formation of the terrain is such that the construction of prestress concrete bridge or cable stayed bridge is not possible. The construction of an arch bridge would also by very costly and hazardous. The only type of bridge possible in this terrain is to tower posts. Therefore the bridge has been constructed with this purpose.

SALIENT FEATURES OF THE BRIDGES :

Span – 650 ft, Clear width of the bridge – 12 ft, Cables height – 700 ft., Height of the tower posted 118 ft. Main cables – 32 mm dia 12 nos each with breaking load of 74 tones. Deckling – steel plate stiffened by truss members and tape crete wearing coat reinforced with wire mesh over wheel track.

Quantity of steel used in the Super – structure – 160 Metric Tonnes. Quantity of Steel used in sub - structure - 47,00 Metric Tonnes Cement Used _ 22300 Bags

Anchor system – 4 anchor houses to resist force acting along the longitudinal direction and 4 other side anchors and 2 vertical anchors to resists wind force.

The Civil pertaining to construction of Anchor Houses and Abutments had been executed by the local contractor Shri Srinivash Aggarwala of Jorethang, South Sikkim.
The Superstructure consisting of Supply & Erection of steel towers and deckling ect. along with laying of cables was executed by M/s Build worth Private Ltd. Guwahati, Assam.
