  DETAILED SYLLABUS FOR THE JUNIOR ENGINEER (CIVIL) RECRUITMENT EXMINATION.

PAPER I CIVIL ENGINEERING.

1. STRENGTH OF MATERIALS & ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURE.

stress – Strain – Young’s modulus of elasticity, elastic limit, plastic limit, Hooke’s law, moment of inertia, bending moment, shear force( Including drawing) of simple support beams, compression, tension, reinforced concrete, neutral axis, moment of resistance.

2. STUCTURAL DESIGN & DRAWINGS.

A. Design of simple supported reinforced cement concrete
(1) beams, (2) one way slabs,(3) columns and (4) footings.
B. Design of gravity retaining walls, beams, capacity definition.


3. ESTIMATE COSTING AND SPECIFICATION
Estimate of road works, culverts, building, rate analysis, theoretical consumption of materials, brief specifications.

4. SURVEY
Chain and tape survey, compass survey, plain table, leveling, trigonometric survey, traverse survey, theodolite survey, work station basics.

5. ENGINEERING MATERIALS & CONDTRUCTION.
Different types of foundations, Masonry works, flooring, plastering, painting roofing, DPC, WBM< Premix Carpeting, drainage works, form works, bricks works, counter fort retaining walls.

6. TRANSPORTATION ENGINERING.
Highways, Highway alignment survey, Highway geometrics for hill roads, bridges – causeway – culverts – various types of bridges abutments, wing walls.

7. PUBLIC HEALTH ENGINEERING
A. Water – Treatment & supply, sources of water (Screening-Sedimentation – Coagulation – Filteration – Disinfection – Distribution)

B. Sanitation – Solid waste collection and disposal – Sewage collection, Sewage treatment, Septic tanks & Design of Septic tanks, soak pits.


8. IRRIGATION ENGINEERING & RIVER TRANING WORKS.

Necessity, method & types of Irrigation, Irrigation channels, Spurs, Weirs and its various type, Kharif & Rabi crops, river training works.

9. SOIL MECHANICS.

Earth Pressure, Safe bearing capacity, types of soils, different test for oil investigation, importance of soil investigation, causes of landslides and some preventive measures.

10. EARTHQUAKES.
Theory of earthquakes resistant structure, seismic Zones, Epicenter, magnitude & Intensity.
